Costume Jewelry
Costume jewelry by definition is jewelry that is not made
from genuine precious metals or gemstones. This definition can be deceiving
however; numerous pieces are made from high quality materials and are
masterfully crafted. Many used to frown upon costume jewelry, but it’s
now regaining popularity.
Often times costume jewelry is reserved for special occasions because
of the elaborate designs and large stones. Rings tend to be large and
flashy; earrings are usually of the chandelier variety. The heavier
the piece, the better with costume jewelry.
Vintage costume jewelry is highly sought after and is often seen being
sold for high dollar amounts at estate sales and auctions. While vintage
jewelry can be pricey, it’s easy to find low cost new costume
pieces. Costume jewelry is supposed to be fun and dramatic, so it’s
simple to find pieces that many would judge as gaudy or over the top
to add to your costume jewelry collection.
